Background:

Nepal has struggled civil war between the government and the Maoist for 11 years until 2006. Many people such as soldiers and villagers involved in fighting and kidnapping have been suffering from trauma. Psychosocial well-being occurs when person’s mental well being is fully achieved with the well-being of society. In order to eradicate the mental illness of people, the social issues need to be solved within their community.

Kopila Nepal has worked for minority people like widows, females who have families with physical or mental disabilities, and their children in mountain villages around Pokhara. Through organizing self-help groups and kids’ club for their empowerment, Kopila recognized the importance of phychosocial well-being.

Activity:

The association of self-help group named Kopila Independent Development Society (KIDS); composed of single and widowed women and people with disabilities, were established in two districts. Kopila Nepal provided training for KIDS member and local resource to solve the social issues leading to mental problems through building relationship and advocacy.
